A CASINO could soon be on its way to the Lincolnshire Coast.
The Government’s Casino Advisory Panel has recommended that East Lindsey District Council be awarded a licence to operate a small casino in the District.
Developers will be asked to submit proposals for high quality complexes, housing a casino on sites between Skegness and Mablethorpe (the Coastal Action Zone). A key objective of the new facilities will be to invigorate the coastal economy by enhancing the tourism experience in the District’s resorts.
The Leader of East Lindsey District Council, Councillor Jeremy Webb, said the Council is committed to developing the all year round tourism economy and this will play a big part: ‘A development on this scale will create many sustainable job opportunities for the District’s residents and bring more visitors to the coast outside the main holiday season, which will help to support local businesses,’ he said.
The Council’s Chief Executive, Nigel Howells said a casino will be an excellent attraction: ‘A casino makes the Lincolnshire coast a very attractive location for private sector companies wishing to invest,’ he said.
Mr Howells added that he hoped potential developers would consider including facilities such as an hotel, quality shops, multi screen cinema or bowling alley as part of their package.
